PODERE IL POGGIOLO: FARM STAYS IN CHIANTI RUFINA
The Podere il Poggiolo farm is situated in the hills of the Chianti Rufina wine region, just a short journey from the heart of Florence (the local train station is only 3 km away and Florence is 23 km from the farm).
We are close to the famous “Strada dei Vini“, or wine road, and wine museum as well as to a village where you can find banks, shops and restaurants. Also in the vicinity are coarse fishing lakes and horse-riding stables.
Surrounded by lush olive groves and vineyards the farm overlooks the entire Chianti Rufina valley from its vantage point.
We are only a 20-minute drive away from the secluded Casentino valley and the idyllic Mugello valley.
We are only an hour’s drive away from the stunning medieval cities of Siena and Arezzo.
In the immediate vicinity you will find a variety of charming villages.
And for fans of shopping there are a host of outlets including Gucci, Della Valle, Dolce e Gabbana and Prada.
Nature lovers can choose from a variety of SOFT trekking routes as well as two coarse fishing lakes (2.3 km away).
The farm produces red wine, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh vegetables. All grown using CCPB-certified organic methods.
We have a swimming pool that is open all year round as well as stables offering riding lessons and trail rides in the surrounding countryside.
The farm consists of a traditional Tuscan farmhouse surrounded by 9 hectares of land offering its guests a quiet relaxing stay in a choice of 5 self-catering apartments and 2 rooms. Each unit has its own private entrance and garden area furnished with tables and chairs and… a breathtaking view of the Chianti Rufina valley and the rest of the farm …….
The farm is fenced and has a private parking area.
In the heart of the farm is the bright airy loggia with a view over the entire valley and the swimming pool where our guests can enjoy breakfast and delicious Tuscan suppers prepared in our kitchen using local produce. In front of this farm-to-table restaurant is the reception where you can find tourist information and purchase the farm products.
We live just across the courtyard in the main farmhouse and are always on hand to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. In fact, our family – which is made up of me, Serena, my husband Alessandro and our 18-year-old son Vittorio – runs the working farm as well as the guest accommodation.
This is our family.
Serena: imaginative, creative, I love restoring old furniture and cooking. I spend a lot of my time in the kitchen trying out various Tuscan specialities. I am responsible for the commercial side of things and the paperwork and I have a weak spot for Dante…. our tame boar, who is my favourite pet!!!
Alessandro: patient and friendly, during the day you’ll find him hard at work on the farm and in the evenings he’s in the restaurant taking care of our guests. He loves nature and animals and has wanted to live in the countryside since he was a child. He loves horses even though his favourite is… Geppetto, his adorable donkey sidekick.
Vittorio: our 18-year-old son goes to high school in Florence. He loves philosophy and physics. His horse is called Otranto but if he had to choose a favourite it would be Arno, our cheeky Jack Russell.
